Food & Beverage and Packaging:

Hygienic Design Solutions

When it comes to hygiene, cleanliness and corrosion protection, the food & beverage industry doesn’t make any compromises. Debris can’t get trapped anywhere – it has to be removed. The requirements that are made on the hygiene and performance of machines and systems are continually increasing.

  • Compliance with legal requirements
  • Compliance with guidelines
  • Resistance to cleaning agents
  • Use of approved materials
  • Permanent tightness

International requirements, new guidelines of organizations such as EHEDG or FDA and international standards all have exacting requirements. The EC Directives no. 1935/2004 and 10/2011 as well as the FDA (CRF 170 ff) include clear specifications for the use of plastics in the food sector.

These specifications affect not only the choice of permissible materials but also the time required for their installation – particularly in regards to running sensor and actuator cables in food processing areas. Passive stainless steel distributors from Murrelektronik are an efficient solution in these cases as they significantly reduce the number of cables that have to be laid with great effort at great expense.

The stainless steel distributors of the MVP12 Steel series in combination with the M12 Steel plug connector series are suitable for use in the product and injection area according to DIN EN 1672-2 / DIN EN ISO 14159 and withstand continuous high-pressure cleaning due to their ingress protection class IP69K.

For applications without high-pressure cleaning, cordsets with a grey molding that makes contaminations easily visible are available.

Apart from standard O-ring seals, cordsets for the food & beverage domain also feature an innovative profile seal offering additional protection when e.g. aggressive foam cleaning agents are used.
